During this week, we finished the mechanical system. It is important to mention that the mechanical system needed to be dismantled during this week because we have found that a flange bearing was broken and not letting the chain move straight and tie.

In addition to that, we would like to give credit to Mr. Anthony Inello who helped building the mechanical system and also for letting us use his facility to work on the project.

Please find below pictures of the broken flange bearing, the reconstruction of the framework, a video of the finalize mechanical system, and a picture with Mr. Inello.

Challenge found in this week

During this week we have encountered a very critical challenge or issue. Stopping the system is still a concern for us since we have not found a way to control the bar code scanner remotely with the Arduino. Due to high voltages, the bar code scanner code needs to be reprogrammed using Python in order to downgrade the voltages usage, otherwise it would burn the Arduino device. Moreover, the bar code scanner we have acquired is volatile. In order words, we cannot control it with a relay because we need to program it to stay on every time we disconnect the power from it.

To counter this challenge, we have found a non-volatile device. However, we are still researching because we have doubts that it cannot be controlled by the Arduino either.
